A Look Ahead At Labor Day Weekend And The Week Beyond

Good morning, folks. As I mentioned the other day, I want to take a few minutes and give everyone an idea about what’s coming up on the blog in the next week or so. I’ve yet to decide how I’ll go about presenting the details and loose ends from D+24 0000-2200 but I’m working on finalizing a plan. Right now, I’m leaning towards presenting them through multiple entries through September, intermingled with entries of other WWIII 1987 topics such as unit histories, more complete orders of battle and perhaps even a preliminary peek at the bibliography and works cited for this blog.

On Friday I’ll post an entry covering the final hours of D+24. Politically and militarily a host of situations remain fluid. It’s important to present a resolution to this climactic final day of the Third World War and set the stage for the first phase of the postwar period.

Over the Labor Day weekend I’ll begin laying out how events played out in other theaters on the last day of the war. A number of unresolved questions remain about the situation in places like the Southern Flank, Arabian Peninsula/Persian Gulf and the Western Pacific.

As for the week following Labor Day, this will be the time when I post the first details from D+24. The day’s events will be revised, but a deeper look at them will be presented to give readers more info than was presented on the timeline sections of the day.

So that’s it for now. I hope all of you are enjoying the final days of summer and have some fun plans set to go for the coming weekend. –Mike

  1. That photo… in the late 80’s I was a young Armor officer TDY at Ramstein – why I have no memory. Met some Air Force pilots in the club one night and… wound up in the back seat of an F-4 Wild Weasel out of Spangdahlem. An amazing experience. Returned the favor with an M1 ride at Bergen a few months later. As you can imagine, I threw up on my ride and they did not. The very squadron in the photo. Thanks for the memory.

    1. Yes, absolutely. That is on the list. I’m going to begin outlining those details in the coming week and start setting up a schedule
