Coming In August, 2022: Regiments by Microprose

It has been brought to my attention that one of the most anticipated releases of the year by Microprose will be available in a few weeks’ time. It was announced that Regiments will be released on 16 August. I’ve talked about this title once or twice over the past six months or so and am glad to see it will finally see the light of day.

Regiments is a real time strategy game set in 1989 Cold War Central Europe. War has just broken out and the player is tasked with leading his regiment through days of high-intensity land combat. Now, I have not spoken to anyone who sampled the game during its development phases, but judging by some of the videos I’m seeing, Regiments initially strikes me as a souped-up Wargame: European Escalation. I hope I’m wrong because there are enough games like that on the market already. Those types of titles get old really quick so hopefully Regiments will break the mold.

Either way, I’m downloading it at 12:01 AM 16 August and will review it before the end of summer. If I don’t like it, expect a review even sooner. 😊

Back to D+24 tomorrow evening. Hope you’re all having a good weekend. –Mike

  1. Have you heard about Gunner! HEAT! PC! ? It’s a lightweight Tank sim with M1 Tank Platoon vibes to it, but obviously modern graphics. It’s set in 1985, and yes, features a single player mode! I wish the tank interior was more interactive but it still looks damn good

    1. I really want to jump into that game but I haven’t had the time yet. Looks fantastic though and there are a lot of vehicles to use.

  2. Speaking of Wargames – I believe you were boardgamer as a lad back in the 1970’s & 80’s and even reviewed your favourites ? Therefore you might already know that many of the SPI, Avalon Hil and other boardgames from the past, right upto the present day can be played virtually from your Laptop courtesy of Vassel. Check out Vassal Engine where loads of boardgames ( from their library of modules ) can be downloaded for boardgame play.

    1. I started in the late 80s but went back to play some of the late 70s games as I got older. I love Vassal now and it allows me to play those oldies whenever I want. Such a great invention 🙂

  3. Thanks for sharing – in the same vein, Lock ‘n’ Load Publishing has released an expansion module called Blood and Fury for their World at War 85 game system (tactical combat, 1985, Central Europe) on Gamefound. Apparently, it was funded in fifteen minutes.
