Muscovites awoke this morning to the sounds of gunfire and explosions in and around sections of the Soviet capital. Much of whatever is happening appears to be centered around the Kremlin and Red Square area. Unconfirmed reports from Western journalists tell of a large Soviet military presence in the streets. There has been no official comment from the Soviet government, and the White House has not publicly speculated on what may be happening in Moscow.
